Welcome Home

Congratulations on working your way through the first days of college. I remember starting my first year here at IC, trying to fit-in and make it to class on time. Two years later I am still trying to do both! Just kidding, I have several alarm clocks now and am glad to finally have a major (after being Exploratory for two years) and some great friends.

Now that you are living on campus for the better part of the year, Ithaca is your home and the Ithaca community is your family. I was lucky enough to spend my entire summer in Ithaca and I remember this feeling I had driving home from grocery shopping one day. You know that feeling when you're driving around your hometown and you don't have to think about what turns to make on which street because you know the look and feel of the land? I had that feeling for the first time this summer, and it was wonderful. My hope for you all is that you too can find your place in the welcoming community that is Ithaca.

The first couple weeks of classes can be pretty overwhelming. Between figuring out where everything is on campus and finding a balance for your classes and social life, getting involved might be the last thing on your mind. This week's issue is packed with different information sessions and meetings for organizations you can be a part of on campus. Don't let these opportunities pass you by before the semester has even started! Two big events I strongly encourage you to attend are the Involvement Fair and the INVOLVED Recruitment Night on September 5th. The Involvement Fair is a wonderful way to check out many of the organizations you can be a part of and make a difference with on campus. INVOLVED is a way for first year students to get to know one another in small groups with upperclassmen as leaders, not only showing you what events are on campus but also the city of Ithaca. Be sure to check out these events and all others that are going on in the next couple weeks!!

Cross Cultural Leadership Retreat Applications are now available! The 6th annual Cross Cultural Leadership Retreat for Ithaca College  students will be held on Ocotber 26-28, 2007. It is often expressed by college students that the opportunities are limited to participate in meaningful dialogue about diversity in a cross cultural environment. Presented by the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, this two and a half day retreat presents the opportunity to explore various aspects of diversity and their relationship to leadership. During the retreat, the entire group will participate in a series of educational sessions and discuss issues as a large group, as well as in smaller, informal conversations. For more information on how to apply visit http://ithaca.edu/csli. The deadline to apply for CCLR is Friday, September 28th.

Student Organization Registration!  New and returning student organizations must register with IC through the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement to gain access to resources and services and to formally conduct business on campus.  Officers from each group are asked to review a description of relevant policies and procedures and fulfill several other requirements to complete the process.  Please visit http://www.ithaca.edu/iclink to register your organization. The deadline to register your organization is September 30th!
